At its most basic, education is the subject of teaching, but there are many different specialties one can focus on in this major, whether it is learning to teach elementary, secondary, music, or physical education.

In most education programs, students will follow a strict curriculum based on their area of study. All of this will prepare the students to design, create and manage a classroom on their own.

Options are plentiful when a student decides to make education their career. They can go on to work in public or private schools, they can teach the youngest of children all the way up to adult learners, or they can take their skills into a private business of tutoring. If the student furthers their schooling, they can open other career possibilities, such as becoming a school principal or a college professor.

Once the education major has been completed, a licensing will occur in the state the student plans to teach in. This can include additional standardized testing to make sure the student has learned the necessary information. Many states have reciprocal licensing, so moving after becoming a teacher is not difficult to do.

The education major is an extremely worthy course of study, especially for those who like to work with young people. Those going into this field will find rewards far outweigh the cost.
