Oklahoma College Scholarships

Whether you are interested in becoming a Sooner or attending another college or university in your home state of Oklahoma, you may need assistance in covering the cost of tuition. Oklahoma scholarships are offered based on a number of various criteria that can help you qualify for such assistance, which will in turn help to reduce the out of pocket cost of your tuition.

The Academic Scholars Program is available for a large number of academic achievers who look forward to attendance at college. While good academic records are criteria for qualification, students are not required to be geniuses to be eligible. As a resident of the state and student in a state university, you may be eligible for the Regional University Baccalaureate Scholarship. This program is designed to reward students with great academic talent for choosing to remain in state to pursue their four-year degree. Eligible candidates have top ACT scores, above average GPAs, and financial need. Awards are offered in sums of up to $3000.

The Foster Care Tuition Waiver is an Oklahoma scholarship that is offered to students in state college or university who are pursuing a full-time college degree program. These students have spent a predetermined amount of time in the state foster care system and are exiting such to begin a life on their own. Maximum awards are for the full cost of tuition.

Dependents of individuals lost in the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995 are also eligible for the Heartland Scholarship, which awards students who are enrolled in a full-time degree program between $3500 and $5500, depending on the type of school they choose to attend.

Paying for school is not easy, but we are here to help. OEDb's student finance section will help you find the money you need to pay your tuition and other college expenses. We cover scholarships, college grants, and student loans. Scholarships and grants are both forms of "free money", meaning they don't need to be paid back. Scholarships are typically awarded by businesses or individuals, with the money being earmarked specifically for tuition. They can be awarded based on a student's location or by religious affiliation, such as Catholicism or Islam. Grants are typically awarded by governments or non-profit organizations and the money often can be applied to several different expenses a student may incur, not solely tuition. They can be awarded based on location or ethnicity, for instance African American or Hispanic. Loans are not considered "free money", because unlike scholarships and grants, they do need to be paid back after graduation. Common federal loans include Perkins and Stafford. Loans are also available by location.
