Military College Scholarships

Members of the U.S. military provide vital protection that keeps the nation safe, and they garner a great deal of respect from civilians for their service to the country. Aside from the pride they take in their work, military service men and women are also rewarded with financial support for college and other training endeavors under the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Montgomery GI Bill. Along with these standard benefits, military service members, and often their spouses and family members, are also often eligible for military scholarships offered from charitable organizations and other resources. In addition, scholarships are also available to high school and college students through the various branches of the ROTC, but may have service requirements attached to them.

Each branch of the military is slightly different in its scholarships offerings, but all have some sort of inclusion for assistance with tuition. In the U.S. Army, scholarship options include the F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), which pays 100% of your tuition for accredited medical, dental, veterinary, psychology, or optometry programs in exchange for a service obligation. The Association of the U.S. Army also offers the annual Larry Strickland Leadership Award and Scholarship for one non-commissioned officer exhibiting leadership, with an award of $4,000 toward costs that tuition assistance does not cover, such as fees and books.

For members of the U.S. Navy and their families, options are available such as the FRA Education Foundation Scholarships and Navy SEAL Foundation scholarships. The Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Reservists, and veterans, as well as family members of any of the above, are also eligible for a number of scholarship programs within or associated with their own branch of service.

Paying for school is not easy, but we are here to help. OEDb's student finance section will help you find the money you need to pay your tuition and other college expenses. We cover scholarships, college grants, and student loans. Scholarships and grants are both forms of "free money", meaning they don't need to be paid back. Scholarships are typically awarded by businesses or individuals, with the money being earmarked specifically for tuition. They can be awarded based on a student's location or by religious affiliation, such as Catholicism or Islam. Grants are typically awarded by governments or non-profit organizations and the money often can be applied to several different expenses a student may incur, not solely tuition. They can be awarded based on location or ethnicity, for instance African American or Hispanic. Loans are not considered "free money", because unlike scholarships and grants, they do need to be paid back after graduation. Common federal loans include Perkins and Stafford. Loans are also available by location.
