Looking for a professional certificate? The growing interest in cosmetology has often been linked to the nation's continually rising obsession with youth and beauty. Skincare companies and cosmetics corporations have become as well-known as major clothing designers. Because of this, the demand for professional cosmeticians has also grown: in 2004 alone, there were 670,000 people working in the cosmetology industry, and this number is expected to rise until 2014.
Until recently, cosmetology schools were too expensive for many students, and the demand for cosmetology school graduates far outreached the supply. Luckily, some cosmetics and skincare product companies have begun offering cosmetology scholarships to qualifying students. Other scholarships are generously offered by professional cosmetology organizations like the National Cosmetology Association.
There are many different options for cosmetology students who are pursuing scholarships. For potential students, scholarships are available to get them started on the road to a cosmetology degree. For cosmetology professionals already working in the field, there are scholarships to help them continue their education so they can advance their established cosmetology careers. Some cosmetology scholarship money from private cosmetology organizations even goes to the children of organization members.
Like any scholarship, cosmetology scholarship monies go to students who fall into the dictated parameters. Every scholarship, whether it is for cosmetology or for any other professional degree, requires candidates to prove their need and motivation in order to be rewarded the scholarship money. The requirements for each cosmetology scholarship are different, but good grades and financial need are among the most common mandatory factors. Some cosmetology scholarship monies come from private institutions that support specific minorities, while other institutions and government funding organizations will award the monies to any deserving student despite race, religion, or age.
Paying for school is not easy, but we are here to help. OEDb's student finance section will help you find the money you need to pay your tuition and other college expenses. We cover scholarships, college grants, and student loans. Scholarships and grants are both forms of "free money", meaning they don't need to be paid back. Scholarships are typically awarded by businesses or individuals, with the money being earmarked specifically for tuition. They can be awarded based on a student's location or by religious affiliation, such as Catholicism or Islam. Grants are typically awarded by governments or non-profit organizations and the money often can be applied to several different expenses a student may incur, not solely tuition. They can be awarded based on location or ethnicity, for instance African American or Hispanic. Loans are not considered "free money", because unlike scholarships and grants, they do need to be paid back after graduation. Common federal loans include Perkins and Stafford. Loans are also available by location.
