Founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1636, Harvard University is the oldest institution of higher education in the United States. It is also a founding member of the Association of American Universities and has the largest financial endowment of any academic institution in the world. The university is made up of 12 degree-granting schools, including a medical school, business school, and the country's oldest continually operating law school. One of the largest supporters of open learning, Harvard offers MOOCs and interactive online classes as a founding member of the edX initiative.
