College Costs

New Jersey saw a 3.4% tuition increase in 2012, and a 29% increase over the five years prior. By comparison, the nationwide increases for the same periods are 8.3% and 42%. Contributions made by New Jersey to higher education during this time were down 2.5%. Both the tuition increases and the decrease in funding were minimal, and near the bottom in each category nationwide, but they still affect those who wish to attend a postsecondary school.

College Enrollment

Enrollment into New Jersey colleges and universities increased by 34.2% between 2000 and 2010, which is relatively close to the average national change of 28.8% in the same time. Enrollment, while in positive figures, has stayed low, likely because of the lingering effects of the economic problems the country has suffered through and the growing concerns about soaring financial aid debt.
