College Costs

Students seeking an associate's degree at a two-year public college in Delaware have seen costs increase at roughly the same rate as inflation for the past five years. On the other hand, individuals attending public colleges seeking a bachelor's degree have seen costs outpace inflation by 5% during the same period. Surprisingly, tuition rates at private four year schools in Delaware rose 8% percent slower than inflation. This means that in Delaware, the cost savings of a public education versus a private institution has slid dramatically from 2009 when a degree from a private college cost about 50% more than a public education. Today, private tuition rates in Delaware average only about 30% more than public tuition rates.

College Enrollment

Between 2005-10, national college enrollment rates rose 21% higher than they did from 1991 to 2001. Delaware on the other hand added less than 4.5% to their college rolls for a similar period. Delaware's flatter college enrollment rate may be explained by a recent 22% decrease in funding for public education.
