Agriculture accounts for nearly $16 billion of the state's economy, which is largely driven by the production of poultry, rice, soybeans, and other crops

Arkansas' largest industries are agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. Agriculture accounts for nearly $16 billion of the state's economy, which is largely driven by the production of poultry, rice, soybeans, and other crops. Arkansas' forest products and timber industries are also some of the strongest in the nation. As for manufacturing, food processing, electrical equipment, and fabricated metal products are some of the biggest industrial outputs in the state.

Many of the largest companies in the world are headquartered in Arkansas, including Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods, J.B. Hunt Transport Services, and Anderson Fish Farms. Not only do these companies dominate the state's economy, but many of them also provide the highest number of jobs in the state. According to the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, the top four employers are the state of Arkansas, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., the federal government, and Tyson Foods, Inc. Those who are interested in working for these top employers or in these major industries will most likely need to have a college degree.

The University of Arkansas' Global Campus offers several online programs and distance courses to in-state and out-of-state students. As of now, UA only has one fully online bachelor's degree program, but the Global Campus does offer 18 graduate degree programs and a handful of licensure and certificate programs. The Arkansas State University System offers hundreds of distance education courses and degree programs at its 11 campus locations and online.
