Muslim College Scholarships
Islam is one of the largest religions in the world by number of adherents, with large numbers of followers in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. However, the religion has relatively few followers here in the U.S. In fact, only .6% of the U.S. population was Muslim as of 2007, according to the CIA's World Factbook. Because Islam is a minority religion in the U.S., Muslim scholarships offered within the U.S. are outnumbered by other faith-based aid choices. However, Muslim students still have several scholarships to choose from.
Muslim students looking for college scholarships in the U.S. are most likely to find aid through private organizations that support Islamic studies and culture. Contacting community and spiritual leaders in mosques and other Islamic centers is often a good way to start finding lesser-known Muslim scholarship opportunities. Some Islamic businesses offer scholarships to local students who want to attend local colleges.
Several organizations and Muslim scholarship programs offer financial support to Muslim students; however, these organizations may require the student to attend universities in countries outside of the United States. The scholarships from these institutions and organizations often provide the winner with airfare to return home annually while he or she is studying abroad.

Paying for school is not easy, but we are here to help. OEDb's student finance section will help you find the money you need to pay your tuition and other college expenses. We cover scholarships, college grants, and student loans. Scholarships and grants are both forms of "free money", meaning they don't need to be paid back. Scholarships are typically awarded by businesses or individuals, with the money being earmarked specifically for tuition. They can be awarded based on a student's location or by religious affiliation, such as Catholicism or Islam. Grants are typically awarded by governments or non-profit organizations and the money often can be applied to several different expenses a student may incur, not solely tuition. They can be awarded based on location or ethnicity, for instance African American or Hispanic. Loans are not considered "free money", because unlike scholarships and grants, they do need to be paid back after graduation. Common federal loans include Perkins and Stafford. Loans are also available by location.
