Left Handed College Scholarships

Have you exhausted every resource you can find to come up with grants and scholarships to help you pay for your college education? You've tapped out your federal grants, school and state grants and scholarship packages, and Stafford loan options and now you are still faced with a huge bill to pay. Stop and think for a minute. Are you left handed? Did you know that there are actual scholarships and award programs to assist those who are?

There is a single scholarship program available for those who are left handed. The Frederick and Mary F Buckley Scholarship offers up to $1000 for students at Juniata College in Huntington, Pennsylvania for students who are at a disadvantage due to being left handed. In many cases, this is seen as a handicap and in all cases, lefties are the minority. Because only 10% of the overall US population is left-handed, and about 13% of 20-year-olds, these individuals can definitely be classified as a minority, although a minority that is slowly picking up the pace.

There are a number of other options open to assist left-handed individuals, however. Many schools are beginning to offer lefty computers, with a left-handed mouse and a left-handed keyboard (on which the numerical keyboard will be found on the left side of the keyboard). Left-handed scissors and other utensils are often donated to art programs, as well, and more and more technologically advanced materials are being offered to accommodate the left-handed individual through school.

Many lefties have several presidents and other famous left-handed individuals to thank for the growing acceptance of and accommodations for lefties, including George HW Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Herbert Hoover, Dan Ackroyd, and Buzz Aldrin.

Paying for school is not easy, but we are here to help. OEDb's student finance section will help you find the money you need to pay your tuition and other college expenses. We cover scholarships, college grants, and student loans. Scholarships and grants are both forms of "free money", meaning they don't need to be paid back. Scholarships are typically awarded by businesses or individuals, with the money being earmarked specifically for tuition. They can be awarded based on a student's location or by religious affiliation, such as Catholicism or Islam. Grants are typically awarded by governments or non-profit organizations and the money often can be applied to several different expenses a student may incur, not solely tuition. They can be awarded based on location or ethnicity, for instance African American or Hispanic. Loans are not considered "free money", because unlike scholarships and grants, they do need to be paid back after graduation. Common federal loans include Perkins and Stafford. Loans are also available by location.
