Robert Morris University (RMU) is a private university located in Moon Township, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Penn. Established in 1921 as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy, the school was renamed Robert Morris University in 2002, after one of the original signers of the Declaration of the Independence.
Today, students may attend the flagship campus or choose from four satellite campuses (RMU Downtown, RMU Monroeville, RMU Cranberry, and Pittsburgh Technical Institute). Alternatively, many of the school’s degree programs are also offered exclusively online. Regular tuition at the main campus costs approximately $12,000 per semester, or $775 per credit; online courses, on the other hand, cost $680 per credit, while courses at the four satellite schools cost $705 per credit.
The roughly 4,000 students enrolled at RMU may choose from 60 undergraduate and 20 master’s and doctoral programs. The university features five academic departments: business; communications and information systems; education and social sciences; engineering, mathematics, and science; and nursing and health sciences. The school boasts a professor-to-student ratio of 15 to 1; nearly half of all courses offered on campus have fewer than 20 students.
Robert Morris University’s online bachelor’s degrees include business; cyber forensics and information security; economics; English; health services administration; hospitality and tourism; nursing; organizational leadership; and psychology. Online graduate-level degrees include business education; competitive intelligence systems; engineering management; human resource management; instructional leadership; Internet security assurance; business administration; nonprofit management; nursing and nursing education; and organizational leadership. Additionally, the Robert Morris University’s online program at Robert Morris is expected to grow in the coming years.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) has consistently been one of the school’s most popular online degree programs for many years. Today, RMU also allows students to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree completely online. The accelerated ‘RN to MSN’ program allows students to earn both degrees in three years. All of the online programs are based on the same curricula as the on-campus courses, and many are taught by the same professors. Most online courses adhere to an eight-week schedule, but students have the option to complete these courses at their own pace.
RMU boasts an expansive athletic program; ‘The Colonials’ compete in the Northeast Conference of Division I of the NCAA. Students can also take part in study abroad or internship opportunities through the school’s international education program; RMU recently sent a group of journalism students to rural Ireland, and the latest alumni retreat was held in Prague and Budapest. The university also hosts a fairly large Greek program; roughly 12% of all students reside in a sorority or fraternity.
Whether they choose to learn in the classroom or online, students who attend Robert Morris University receive plenty of individualized attention on the road to their degree. The school has been a prominent Pennsylvania institution for nearly a century — and thanks to its widespread adoption of online course formats, RMU stands to be a popular collegiate choice for years to come.
