Portland State University is located in downtown Portland, Ore. It is the largest public institution in the state with 29,000 students, outpacing the University of Oregon and Oregon State University. The school established a reputation for perseverance when it survived a severe flood at its original site in Vanport City, Oregon.
Portland State continues to receive recognition for its green building and sustainability initiatives and academic quality. It made The Princeton Review’s list of The Best Western Colleges and it uses its own campus to test-drive sustainability practices through its Institute for Sustainable Solutions.
Portland State offers numerous undergraduate degree programs fully online through its School of Extended Studies. The Extended Campus division allows students to complete their graduate degrees online from any location. Students are required to have 45 hours or more of college course credit and a GPS of at least 2.25 to be eligible for admission to an Extended Campus degree completion program.
Students enrolled in Portland State’s online programs have access to several resources designed to enhance their distance learning education. They have access to PSU’s library and document delivery services if they live more than 30 miles away from the campus. They also have access to the Disability Resource Center, the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL), and PSU Career Connect, an online board for internships and jobs. Extended Campus students also have access to hands-on academic advising services.
Certificate programs and graduate degrees are also available online through Portland State for select disciplines. PSU offers an online MBA program (eMBA), a Master of Social Work Distance Option, Master of Science in Systems Engineering and a Master of Software Engineering (OMSE). Independent study courses are available online for high school and college credit as well.
