The International Academy of Design and Technology (IADT) was founded in Chicago in 1977. Since then, it has opened campuses in eight more cities to serve students across the nation in a variety of culturally and artistically flourishing communities. IADT’s mission is “to prepare students for professional opportunities and career success in select design and technology fields.” It is known for experienced instructors, a flexible program structure, and an award-winning online campus.
Since IADT’s mission is to prepare students for careers as creative professionals, its degree programs are specifically focused on current industry needs and trends; for this reason, most exclude general education prerequisites in favor of focusing on students’ specific areas of study. Degree programs include eleven associate and seventeen bachelor’s degree programs in the areas of design, fashion, media arts, technology, and business. Most instructors have professional experience in their fields, and students can access the latest technology to ensure their skills are up-to-date and can be translated directly into their industry work. IADT also offers students various opportunities to display their work to the public, including the IADT Student & Alumni Gallery, IADTX Magazine, and the annual IMAGINE fashion show.
In its commitment to success, IADT allows students a great deal of flexibility in many aspects of their learning experiences. Students may apply online or request more information about programs and services at any time, and they can chat online with school representatives during business hours. Those who consider attending one of IADT’s physical campuses may arrange campus visits and audit a class session at no charge. The requirements for completion of program requirements are also very flexible. Since 2007, students have been able to take certain classes online. In 2009, IADT launched the International Academy of Design and Technology-Online, creating a rich virtual campus that allows students to earn their degrees at their own pace.
International Academy of Design and Technology’s online degrees include five associate and seven bachelor’s programs, including graphic design, building information modeling, and digital media production. Students use My Unique Student Experience (M.U.S.E.), the school’s proprietary content-delivery system, which takes diverse learning styles and preferences into account. Students can view lessons, engage with instructors and classmates, and access course materials and other resources. IADT Online was named “Best of the Best” in the Education and Academia category of the 2009 Computerworld Honors Program.
IADT’s flexibility and support enable the academy to help students achieve their goals as professionals. Whether on- or offline, students who enroll at this prestigious institution receive a well-rounded education in not only the creative discipline of their choice, but also the practical side of these fields, such as business management and personal finance. This all-encompassing academic model puts IADT far ahead of the competition in terms of producing positive student outcomes.
