Florida Tech was first opened in 1958 and originally provided specialized continuing professional development opportunities for professional scientists and engineers employed at the NASA facility. Through an ongoing excellence in programming, Florida Tech expanded to a fully accredited institute of higher learning, accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The online program at Florida Tech offers the same programming and instructors as the on-site classes without the need to travel to the campus. The online learning experience is ideal for professionals or busy working people that want to keep working while completing their degree. The flexibility of scheduling and 24-hour access to course information is ideal. The online classes offer several types of learning experiences including streaming video lectures that allow the student to stop, replay, or pause the lecture whenever necessary. Chat rooms and message boards keep students in touch with each other as well as provide a forum for staff and students to interact in real time. In addition to the chat rooms and message boards there are also opportunities to interact with instructors and faculty and other students using e-mail.

The opportunities to interact, ask questions, and get feedback from professors and peers make online learning through Florida Tech both fast-paced and applicable to work environments. Assignments are completed online and submitted via e-mail or specific software applications. Grading and feedback is quick, and through e-mail or message boards it is possible to discuss concerns or questions immediately with the instructor.
