Capella University Online offers an extensive selection of online learning programs. Distance education is conducted through lectures, message boards and sometimes colloquia, which are residencies that some students will attend as part of their degree program.

Online learning at Capella begins with an introductory course in Web education. Students will learn how the system works and how to communicate with others. Courses have beginning and ending dates during which students are expected to turn in all assignments to pass the class. Most courses are three months in length with some that will last only one month depending on the degree program.

Capella will help students learn about a new career or advance in their current one. Students are expected to study at least 10 hours a week for most degree programs. They are also expected to log in to classes two to five times a week. This will help students learn and will also help instructors maintain attendance.

Message boards are available for group discussions where students can ask and answer questions. This is a good learning tool for those who enjoy interaction with others. The platform hosts a comfortable learning environment where students can participate in course discussions or just read what their classmates have to say.
