Health informatics is the study of providing information within the health care industry. Students that will take courses in this field are specific to that of the health care field. They will learn a wide range of study including the impact of information technology, diversity, privacy laws and applications, ethical concerns, team building and leadership skills training and much more. Generally, the student will be required to take a specific number of credit hours followed by an internship and field experience. They may also need to take a final program after this completion and obtain a licensing requirements depending on their specific course of study.
Other courses that will be covered include health science information management, medical informatics which includes biomedical communication, clinical care, community based study and much more. Students will need to meet specific course requirements for a degree in this field. They can also use this field as a secondary to their other course of study if they so choose. Continuing education may be necessary.
