Special Education Online Degree Programs
Special education is an area of specialization for teachers and educators who wish to specifically work with special-needs students and learners. Special education is a subject of study that is critically important in the world of education because many different types of learners do not function or learn well in a typical classroom environment and need special attention and individualized instruction from special education teachers.
Studying special education can prepare teachers and teachers-to-be for a career as a special education teacher, working with students who have various challenges, disorders, learning disabilities or other types of special needs. Special education can be further divided into specific categories based on the disability type — such as learning disabilities, like ADD and ADHD, mental retardation, and emotional challenges.
Special education learners can also find employment in a variety of educational settings besides public schools, such as homes, private schools, residential schools, community programs, institutions and correctional facilities.
