Villanova University is a Catholic university founded by the brothers of the order of St. Augustine in 1842. Villanova University campus is located approximately 12 miles from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. US News and World Report consistently ranks Villanova University as one of the top universities in the United States. Villanova's campus is designed to allow students studying various educational fields to work collaboratively, share ideas, and network; its online programs are no different. Villanova University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and schools as well as individual accreditation by the various governing bodies of each department.
The ratio of students to teachers is 13-to-1, with over 90 percent of the faculty having a doctoral degree or the highest equivalent degree provided in their respective fields. Online classes are kept small to allow students to have easy access to faculty members and to be able to get individual help, just as they would receive in traditional classes and lectures. Most of the faculty members that teach the online programs are also the instructors on campus, ensuring that the education is consistent between the two forms of study.
Students are able to complete online classes and coursework at their convenience 24 hours a day. Lectures and class material is presented through streaming video, CD-ROM, interactive chat rooms, message boards, group and individual projects, and assignments as well as examinations. All course material is covered online with no requirement to attend in-person classes on campus. In addition, the program offers VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) access to instructors and virtual whiteboards for projects and brainstorming. Faculty members keep online office hours for students that need to speak to the instructor in real time either via messaging or VoIP software.
