Due to technology and computer advances, technical writing is no longer restricted to print documents. Technological advancements have opened the field of technical writing to professional specialists in fields of technology, education, communications, and design. The expanding field has embraced fields of organizing, managing, designing web sites, explaining and teaching technology to the public and private enterprises. Compensation for technical writers varies according to skill level, industry, location, experience, and the companies for which you write, but tend to range from $35,000-85,000 annually.
Most technical writers have a four-year degree in English or technical writing. A tremendous working knowledge in grammar, and a portfolio with representative samples of your work, will prove your expertise as a writing communicator. When coupled with knowledge of modern technology, a degree in technical writing, an ability to research a topic, and produce good, grammatical work, is all it takes to start a career in technical writing.
Technical writing offers many great career options, especially if you have your BS degree in this concentration. You can earn this degree from the comfort of your own computer…
