College Costs

The cost of a post-secondary education has been on the rise nationwide for several years. Between 2011 and 2012 alone, tuition in New Hampshire rose 13.1% while state contributions to higher education fell 39.4%. This rise and fall are correlated; as state funding for colleges and universities fell, they had to find other ways to keep their doors open. Raising the cost of attendance was a way for the schools to meet their financial needs.

College Enrollment

While enrollment into colleges and universities was up nationwide, in 2010, New Hampshire saw a slight decrease of 1.7% at the four-year public institutions. However, for the same year, there was a 7.6% increase of students who enrolled at two-year public schools. According to the Pew Center on the States and the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, New Hampshire's colleges and universities, among other states, is projected to have one of the highest decreases in enrollment percentages in the next decade.
