New Pinterest Discovery Tools and Analytics Guide

The Pinterest image-curation social network has added several new features over the past two weeks that have added significant functionalty. Most notably the addition of new some discovery tools and free analytics for website owners. Here’s a quick guide to the changes.

Switch to the “New Look”

The first thing you’ll want to do in order to see any of the changes is switch to the “new look” which is an option found in the drop-down menu attached to your username in the top-right corner.

Discovery Tools

Now, when you expand a pin, you will have a number of options to discover other, similar pins. These discovery features can be found along a right sidebar and below the expanded pin. They include:

  • Pins from the same board: You can explore the entire board without leaving the page you’re on.
  • Pins from the same source: Here you’ll find other things pinned from the same website.
  • People who pinned this also pinned: This is literally what it says it is. Clever, we hope. We’ll be updating our Android and iOS apps soon to include this.

If you have a website, you can now claim it on Pinterest and view statistics on pins coming from your site. The first step is to verify your website with Pinterest. To do that, click on your username on the upper right-hand side. You’ll see your profile, with your Boards, etc. Click on the pencil icon below your username and enter your website. Click Verify Website. Here’s a walk-through:

Once you’ve claimed your website, you can access analytics through the drop-down menu on your username in the upper-right corner. You’ll now be able to view graphical representations of:

  • How many people have pinned from your site
  • How many people have re-pinned those pins from your site
  • How many people have seen these pins
  • How many people visited your site from Pinterest
