11 Free Essential Apps for College Grads

Are you all set to graduate this spring?  Did you finish your coursework in December?  If you’re a recent (or soon-to-be) college grad eager to start your new life post-finals, you’ll want to check out these must-have apps that will get your finances organized, help you find that amazing dream job, and set you up in some awesome new digs!

1) JobSearch by Indeed


This free app for both iOS and Android devices lets you search the Indeed database of over 15 million jobs in over 50 countries and 28 languages.  Save or email jobs, follow companies, and apply for jobs with personalized messages for each.  This app is filled with handy features that will help you through the entire process of finding a new job.

2) cPRO (CraigsPro)


Looking for an apartment, some furniture for your new place, or even a car?  You’ll want to download this free Craigslist app.  Search all of Craigslist and conduct multi-city searches, set up notifiers, browse with the map browser and photo gallery, or even post ads – so far there have been over 1 million posted from the app.


3) Mint


After graduation you’ll be looking at landing your first job and will hopefully be giving up your “starving student” status.  And to help you manage your new salary and financial future, there’s the Mint Personal Finance app.  Mint allows you to track, budget and manage your money all in one handy app.  Mint will let you view all of your accounts, categorize your transactions and even create a customized budget for you, based on your actual spending.

It’s Not What You Know, It’s Who You Know.  That old adage is still very true, especially in this time of social networking.  And LinkedIn is all about creating and building business relationships.  This handy networking app will let you search for and follow people, jobs, companies, and groups, update your profile, and even apply to recommended jobs with your LinkedIn profile.  This is a must-have for any college grad looking for a job.


5) Apartments For Rent


Planning to move out of your parents’ basement?  If so, this free app will guide you through your rental home search with rich graphics and interactive features that fully leverage the power of tablet devices.  Search by location or through the interactive map search, access hi-res apartment photos and floor plan images, watch full screen video tours of the apartment communities, and even contact the apartment managers through the app.




Automate your life with IFTTT (“if this then that”) which allows you to combine and connect services and applications to make your life easier.  Through IFTTT “Recipes” you can create a connection through Facebook and Dropbox to automatically create a backup of any photo you’re tagged in. You can use RSS feeds in recipes to get yourself information on the go such as setting yourself up to receive a text message if it’s supposed to rain or if someone has retweeted you, or be notified in case the CDC announces a zombie outbreak!

9) Jetsetter for iPad


Perhaps after graduation you’re ready to get away from it all.  With the Jetsetter for iPad app, you can get insider access to travel deals and offers, view panoramic photography, read first-hand reviews, and book your travel right through the app.  This handy app provides access to highly recommended hotels, vacation homes and tour packages worldwide.


10) AnyList


Since you’ll be doing your own shopping now, you may want to check out Anylist which allows you to easily create and share grocery shopping lists with roommates or friends.  Common grocery items are automatically categorized, but you can also create your own custom categories.  You can even add items with Siri!!
