Study Abroad College Grants
Studying abroad can be one of the most exciting options for attending college for students in the United States. However, it can also be quite costly, making it an impossibility for most people. Luckily, as with many other special circumstances now recognized, there are grants available to assist in covering the costs of studying abroad. Finding these grants is just a matter of buckling down and doing the research to locate the sources of the potential funding.
The CIEE is an administrator of study and teach abroad programs, maintaining nearly 100 options in more than two dozen countries around the world. Students seeking grants for traveling studies can find financial assistance through this institution in the form of John E. Bowman Travel Grants, awarding grants to those who wish to study internationally in non-traditional locations.
Undergraduate and graduate students selected to participate in key educational conferences and meetings internationally for education can also find grants for such travels, allowing them to participate in study abroad through conducting research, attending seminars and conferences, and much more in an international setting. This is often the case for students attending colleges and universities that require them to make presentations of projects, studies, or dissertations or those who must take up research in the fields of math, healthcare, and science in order to achieve a degree. Small grants help cover the cost of any travel expenses incurred. Stipends of anywhere from $500 to $1000 are often awarded for just educational conference expenses.

Paying for school is not easy, but we are here to help. OEDb's student finance section will help you find the money you need to pay your tuition and other college expenses. We cover scholarships, college grants, and student loans. Scholarships and grants are both forms of "free money", meaning they don't need to be paid back. Scholarships are typically awarded by businesses or individuals, with the money being earmarked specifically for tuition. They can be awarded based on a student's location or by religious affiliation, such as Catholicism or Islam. Grants are typically awarded by governments or non-profit organizations and the money often can be applied to several different expenses a student may incur, not solely tuition. They can be awarded based on location or ethnicity, for instance African American or Hispanic. Loans are not considered "free money", because unlike scholarships and grants, they do need to be paid back after graduation. Common federal loans include Perkins and Stafford. Loans are also available by location.
