College Costs

Between 2006 and 2012, students at Colorado’s public universities have seen the state’s funding of higher education drop 6.1%, according to the College Board. Grapevine used slightly newer data and found that, between 2009 and 2014, state funding of higher education declined 18.5%. To combat these declines, the state has been looking into a variety of initiatives, including one last year that would charge foreign students more than the out-of-state tuition rate to attend classes at Colorado University. The school also considered a ballot measure to fund higher education, according to Dailycamera.com.

College Enrollment

Between 2000 and 2010, Colorado has seen their enrollment jump 23.6%, according to a 2012 report published by the College Board. Chalkbeat Colorado published an article in May 2014 that highlighted a Colorado Department of Higher Education report of increased enrollment of Hispanic students in Colorado’s higher education system; the department noted that 57% of the students who graduated from high school in 2012 had enrolled in higher education. A January article in USA Today noted that Colorado’s new marijuana law was not affecting the state’s college applications in a negative light, although the increase in applications may be partly influenced by the law.
