For over 60 years, the Culinary Academy of New York has offered training and education focused on the culinary and hospitality industries, providing individual with the comprehensive background and hand-on experience needed to obtain entry level positions as chefs, bakers, and cooks, as well as working in catering and other food or hospitality industries. Based in the unofficial capital of the United States (New York), the academy is surrounded by opportunities for graduates who want to enter into lucrative careers.

At the Culinary Academy of New York, students are encouraged to "learn by doing", with internships and externships begin an integral part to the four major training programs and providing real world experience. The Commercial Cooking and Catering program imparts knowledge to students in areas of culinary arts such as food preparation, baking and cake decoration, quantity food production, catering, sanitation, food purchasing, and restaurant operations and includes an externship. The Commercial Cooking program takes these skills and adds additional in-depth information, as well as greater skill development in knife skills, menu planning, and cooking techniques, also requiring a final externship position.

In the Hotel Management Certificate program, students learn about hotel operations, back-office administration, event planning, and food and beverage, entering into an externship after classroom study is completed. The school even has a Medical Assistant Certification program, imparting skills in clinical procedures, exams, lab procedures, EKGs, health insurance systems, medical office procedures (including billing, coding, and management), terminology, and more. An internship completes the coursework.
