As one of the Art Institute locations across North America, the Art Institutes International Minnesota was founded in 1964 by Petrena Lowthian (and originally called Lowthian College). Geared to appeal to the creative student, programs allow students to earn certificates and degrees in a number of fields that can provide lucrative and challenging career opportunities. Since 1981, the school has had the authorization to grant Associate degrees and was recently awarded the ability to grant Bachelor degrees in 2000.

Students can earn a certificate in the Art of Cooking or Baking & Pastry, or continue on to achieve an Associate in Applied Science, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in a number of other dedicated fields. Programs available include Advertising, Culinary Arts or Management, Design Management, Fashion and Retail Management, Graphic Design, Hospitality Management, Interactive Media Design, Interior Design, Interior Planning with AutoCAD, Media Arts and Animation, Photography, or Visual Effects and Motion Graphics.

The faculty consists of professionals and educators who are passionate about preparing students for exciting artistic careers. Located in downtown Minneapolis, the school is proud to integrate with the community to offer students the opportunity to work in externships, participate in events that give them real world experience, and open up the minds to more creative ideas than those in a typical structured classroom. If you are interested in entering into a career in creative and applied arts, consider an education at the Art Institutes International Minnesota and see what you can achieve.
