The Books That Changed Your Lives
Last week, Lifehacker asked their readers to share the books which made a difference in their lives. After 250 comments, they compiled a list of the most voted for books along with summaries and links to Amazon. What a great idea, if libraries did something similar they could link to their own catalog records. Here are the top-voted books within the LifeHacker readership:
- The Bible
- The Works of Ayn Rand
- The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
- Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values
- The Stranger
- The Works of George Orwell
- The Works of Richard Dawkins
- The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings Trilogy
- Ender’s Game
- Dune
What books were life-changing for you? I would have to agree with LifeHacker readers and go with The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings Trilogy myself, please leave yours in the comments!

I would agree with the readers on George Orwell. 1984 has been my favorite book since the day I first read it. I would add another dystopian novel and put Brave New World on the list.. and I would have been quite happy NOT to see Ayn Rand at the top of this list.

I would add Stephen Donaldson’s Covenant series and the Narnia books by CS Lewis.

While I appreciate a number of other books more, a book that changed my life was Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins.
