Dewey who?
Not sure how you feel about good organisation - but I’m passionate about making sense out of systems and moving with the times.
I’ve seen a strong groundswell in academic, school and public libraries to re-invent their spaces - physical and virtual. You might be familiar with the Educause e-Book Learning Spaces, which provides a handy starting point for faculty, learning technologists, librarians, and administrators interested in exploring spaces, technology and pedagogy. Information technology has brought unique capabilities to learning spaces, whether stimulating greater interaction through the use of collaborative tools, videoconferencing with international experts, or opening virtual worlds for exploration.
Gilbert library provides a whole new ‘take’ on the organisation of resources in learning spaces.
When the new Gilbert library opens next month, it will be the first public library in the nation whose entire collection will be categorized without the Dewey Decimal Classification System, Maricopa County librarians say. Instead, tens of thousands of books in the Perry Branch library will be shelved by topic, similar to the way bookstores arrange books.
Now I’m really wondering about the catalogue record?
