College Costs

The cost of tuition for colleges and universities in Alabama has been steadily rising for both private and public institutions. This can be partially attributed to general inflation, but a major culprit is the decrease in state spending on higher education. In fact, Alabama's higher education spending declined 28.4% between the 2008 and 2013 fiscal years, making it the state with the fifth sharpest dip. In turn, colleges and universities raise tuition costs to fill the increasing gap left by decreased state support.

College Enrollment

Enrollment in Alabama colleges and universities has steadily increased. Alabama\'s enrollments have been on par with the national average, seeing a surge in enrollment during the recession and a gradual increase afterwards.

This acts as an investment program, and Alabama residents may be eligible to forgo the upfront commissions costs and fees.
    • The Alabama Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (AASFAA), beyond their mission to advance the opportunities of Alabama's fin aid professionals, is committed to keeping Alabama's students and parents informed of resources and options that will help them manage the cost of a college education. AASFAA also awards their own scholarships and holds annual conferences.
