ACCSCT - Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology
The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology is an organization that is devoted to encouraging higher quality education for various educational institutes. They are a private, non profit group that is acknowledged by the United States Department of Education as being an organization that has the highest standards when determining if an educational institute meets certain standards. These institutes include colleges, universities, distance education institutes, and other schools.
The ACCSCT was founded in 1967 and was originally part of the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools. They were part of this organization until 1993 when they split to become their own private institute. They needed to be independent at this point because in 1992 the United States government enacted the Higher Education Act Amendments. By becoming independent from the NATT, they could be sure to conform to the high standards required of them.
The ACCSCT is set up in a way that will help them to efficiently review the schools in the most effective way possible. They have a board that currently has thirteen members, four of which are considered "public". This means that they represent the United States government, post-secondary education, and industry. These members are either elected or appointed, depending on where they come from. This board is designed to help the organization function properly. They meet at least once in a quarter to help oversee the goings-on of the organization. When it comes to education, the ACCSCT makes sure the board understands this mission when they meet.
